Zurich Airport is located just 10 km north of the Swiss city of Zurich. With domestic and international connections to Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Copenhagen, Vienna, Warsaw, and Singapore, the Swiss airport is in ever-increasing demand as an aviation hub for this part of Europe. In 2021 the airport handled 10.2 million passengers - still a long way from it's peak of more than 30 million in 2019.
It is Switzerland's most prominent and busiest international flight connection and serves as a base for Swiss International Airlines. More than 180 companies are based at the airport. Locally it is also known as Kloten Airport because the complex is partially located in Kloten, Oberglatt, Winkel, Opfikon, and Rümlang in the canton of Zürich.

Among the many airlines using the airport are Air Berlin, Aer Lingus, Aeroflot, Air Malta, Air Canada, Austrian Airlines, American Airlines, Air France, Delta Air Lines, Finnair, EasyJet, Emirates, Germanwings, Iberia, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines and low-cost carrier Vueling.
Onward travel is quick and convenient, as the airport of Zurich has a railway station, which is located underneath the terminal building. Metro trains connect the airport to the city via S-Bahn connections (S2 and S16), and a tram service via lines 10 and 12 also stops at the site. There are mainline train connections to Winterthur, Basel, St. Gallen, Lucerne, and Bern, as well as other EuroCity, InterCity, and InterRegio services which even cover destinations in Germany such as Munich and Konstanz, for example. Most years more than 20 million passengers pass through the gates of Zürich Airport. The airport offers three runways with 60 aircraft stands and two passenger terminals with more than 100 passenger gates for arrivals and departures. At Terminal A, predominantly European routes and international TWA flights are handled, while Terminal B operates charter flights and all other international routes.
Passengers with a bit of time to spare might enjoy a tour of the facilities. There is an observation deck (B) with excellent views of the runways and apron. The world's first observation walkway even allows visitors to glimpse the pilots in their cockpits! A futuristic-looking Airport Center provides plenty of dining, refreshment, snacks, and excellent shopping facilities for last-minute gifts before departure. There are grocery and supermarket stores, fashion outlets, snack bars, cafes, accessories, and jewelry. Tax and duty-free shopping are also possible at various outlets at the airport for articles such as perfumes, cosmetics, spirits, and tobacco.
Information desks throughout the terminals assist passengers with onward travel-related issues and complimentary hotel booking services. Information desks also sell a ZürichCard, which entitles visitors to significant discounts on public transport and entrance fees to attractions and offers general guidance and information on other airport services.
